No desktop ads
No promoted tiles in the menu. No lock-screen shopping. No “suggested” apps competing with the tools you installed. The panel and wallpaper are yours, not inventory for someone else’s campaign.
SnipeOS
A free operating system
Download it. Install it. Own the machine again. No pushed notifications, no account wall, and no vendor treating your desktop like a billboard.
SnipeOS is a creator-class Linux desktop on Lubuntu 26.04 LTS. You can use the whole system without paying, without signing up, and without accepting a desktop that sells your attention back to you.
Commercial desktops increasingly ship ads in the Start menu, lock-screen tips, forced account prompts, AI sidebars that watch what you type, and telemetry that phones home by default. SnipeOS does not. The ISO is free to download. The apps on it are free to run. The everyday stack (browser, office, mail, creative tools) does not require a Microsoft or Google login to start working.
That is also a privacy posture: no ads means no ad pipeline; no AI assistant means no capture layer; no telemetry means idle software stays idle. If you want the deeper local-first story, see privacy. This page is the simpler claim: SnipeOS is free, and it stays quiet.
A clean desktop, a quiet browser, a full office suite, and credentials that stay local.
No promoted tiles in the menu. No lock-screen shopping. No “suggested” apps competing with the tools you installed. The panel and wallpaper are yours, not inventory for someone else’s campaign.
Snipe Browser is Ungoogled Chromium with telemetry and Google services removed from the binary, uBlock Origin compiled in, and no bolted-on AI assistant. An idle tab is idle, not feeding background pipelines.
SnipeOffice, the creative stack, Steam, and the rest arrive on the image. You are not renting Writer by the month or waiting on a store to finish downloading before you can open a letter.
No vendor login to reach the desktop. Thunderbird for real mail. QtPass for GPG-encrypted passwords on disk you control. Notifications stay about your system, not about product pitches.
Ads, recall-style capture, default cloud sync, and “helpful” AI all assume your attention and your data are inventory. SnipeOS leaves those channels out of the flagship apps instead of inviting you to manage them after the fact.
Support tracks Lubuntu 26.04 LTS through April 2029. The ISO stays free to download for as long as the project publishes it. Your files stay local unless you choose otherwise.
The junk other desktops normalised as “part of the experience.”
No ad tiles, no lock-screen commerce, no Start-menu promotions. The UI is for launching your work, not selling you someone else’s.
No assistant sidebar trained on your documents and keystrokes. Features that index, suggest, and “assist” continuously are simply not in the stack.
No Microsoft account. No Google account. No phone-home middleware baked into the browser and office tools you open every day.
Get the ISO, write it with Rufus, try the live desktop, then install when you are ready. No payment step. No registration gate.
