Different version track than desktop

Desktop Snipe ships Chromium 140. Android Snipe ships Chromium 147.0.7727.56 and requires Android 10 or later (arm64). Treat them as separate products for updates — do not expect the desktop release number to match the APK.

Early Access on Google Play

Snipe for Android is available as an open Early Access listing on Google Play. You no longer need to sideload unless you want to. Play installs receive updates through Play; the APK path does not auto-update the app binary.

Sideload updates stay manual

If you install from the APK, Snipe does not check for package updates automatically. Check the new-tab footer or Settings → About, or switch to the Play listing. Filter lists for Adblock Plus still update automatically — see the adblocking policy.

Adblock Plus — not uBlock Origin

Desktop builds compile uBlock Origin into the core. Android uses Adblock Plus (Settings → Adblock Plus settings), with EasyList and other lists hosted via cromite.org mirrors, plus the shared trusted-sites allowlist. A separate Legacy Adblock settings entry also appears in Settings.

First launch

Welcome screen — read this.

On first open, Snipe explains automatic ad-block filter updates and that app updates are your responsibility. Then you pick a default search engine: SnipeSearch, Google, or Microsoft Bing.

Frequently asked questions.

Do I still need to sideload?

No. Snipe for Android is on Google Play as Early Access. Prefer that path for install and updates. The APK remains available if you cannot use Play or want a direct package.

How do I import my Google or Brave passwords?

Export them as a CSV from Google Password Manager or Brave, then import that file into Snipe’s local Password Manager (open chrome://password-manager/settings and use Import passwords). Full walkthrough with screenshots: Import Google / Brave passwords into Snipe.
