About · SnipeOS 13D
A complete, installable Linux desktop aimed at creators. Debian 13 underneath, a curated production toolchain on top, LXQt throughout. This is the current SnipeOS channel, not an in-place upgrade from classic SnipeOS 26.
Warning: This page is for SnipeOS 13D. If you are using SnipeOS 26, please click here.
Where a stock Debian LXQt install gives you a fast desktop and asks you to hunt for applications, SnipeOS 13D hands you a full stack the moment the installer finishes: SnipeOffice, privacy-first Snipe Browser, real email, vector and raster graphics, photo tools, video editors, a streaming studio, professional audio, 3D and CAD, desktop publishing, screenwriting, the Craft suite, a media centre, games, and a working Windows compatibility layer.
SnipeOS 13D is an honest remaster, not a from-scratch OS. It is built with Debian live-build for amd64, with Snipe branding, Calamares, and a sealed creative application set on top. That architecture inherits Debian 13 security updates while keeping Snipe identity and the curated toolchain cleanly packaged for first boot.
Every replacement serves one goal: minimise resource usage so memory, CPU, and disk belong to your work. Snipe Browser idles lean on a single tab because telemetry, sync, and preloaders were stripped. SnipeOffice is tuned to run leaner than a stock LibreOffice-class suite on the same hardware.
The structural change is OS-level memory cleaning when applications close. Resources return immediately instead of lingering. Serial creative workflows (darktable, then Krita, then Scribus, then Kdenlive, then OBS) stay in clean headroom instead of slowly swapping.
Removal is a feature. The desktop ships real packages, not snap stubs for the core browser and mail path. Things run because you launched them, and they stop when you stop them. The Craft suite sits beside the classic open tools so writing, film, art, audio, CAD, and publishing stay on the same light machine.

Users welded to GNOME or KDE-specific tooling will be happier on those desktops. Exotic wireless chips that struggle on Debian will struggle here too. Check Wi-Fi against Debian 13 before wiping a sole laptop, or plan on Ethernet. If you need cutting-edge non-stable packages the week they ship, this is the wrong aisle: SnipeOS 13D trades novelty for a stable Debian base on purpose.
Still on classic SnipeOS 26? Security and archive updates continue via the 26 update script through April 2029, but new installs should use 13D. See the classic About page for the 26 channel.
